Training FAQs

Find the answers to the most commonly-asked questions about our interactive statistics workshops!

How can I learn statistics?

Let Prism help you! We provide a variety of statistical training courses, from which you can choose the most relevant off-the-shelf workshops... or you can pick and mix from our modules, to focus on the topics of specific interest to you... or we can work with you to develop your very own bespoke training programme!

What training do you offer?

We offer training in a wide range of statistical topics, covering everything from the very basics in our Foundation Statistics programme to Design of Experiments (DoE) workshops and Regulatory Requirements training. You can find a full list of our workshops here.

The thought of statistics scares/intimidates/bores me – why should I attend your training?

Despite what you might remember from college, statistics isn’t just about numbers, calculations and baffling equations. Equally, training certainly shouldn’t be a one-sided lecture. We recognise this and pack our workshops with relevant real-life industry examples and case studies, design our courses to be fully interactive to ensure you’ll have plenty of ‘hands-on’ time with software packages and simulation tools, and encourage attendees to ask questions and share thoughts throughout. We appreciate statistics training might not sound fun, but we’re passionate about helping customers make the most out of their data and very proud of the course feedback we regularly receive.

Will your courses be relevant to my specific work?

Yes! If you’re interested in any of our standard courses, we’ll chat with you to understand the type of work you’re involved with; we’ll use this information to select industry-specific case studies, examples and practicals relevant to your application area and include them in the course. Alternatively, if you’d like to customise any of our courses, we’d be happy to review your data or project work and incorporate it into the workshop materials.

Are your courses delivered in person or online?

Both! We know that some customers prefer us to visit their premises for training and we’re happy to travel to deliver workshops face-to-face; equally, we appreciate that some customers prefer the flexibility that remote delivery brings. Whatever your preference, we ensure our training remains interactive throughout. You can find out more about the differences between on-site and online training here.

How long do they last?

It wholly depends on which course you require, and how you’d like it delivered. Most standard workshops are 1-2 days long when delivered on-site at your premises; we split these up for online deliveries, with the general rule that 1 day on-site = 2 half-day online sessions. We’re happy to work with you to ensure a schedule that fits with your availability.

How many people can attend a course?

We’ve spent over two decades providing interactive statistics training; experience has shown us that 10 people per workshop hits the sweet spot in terms of ensuring everyone receives the correct level of support throughout.

I’m keen to join one of your courses, but it’s only me that needs training!

We regularly run a public statistics training program featuring our most popular courses; this option is ideal for individuals or small groups from different companies who want to attend the workshop. The course content remains exactly the same as the private delivery, and we offer discounts on advance and multiple delegate bookings… we’ll also arrange lunch and keep you topped up with biscuits and tea for in-person public courses! Take a look at our public workshop page to see what courses we have coming up.

Is there any pre-training work or experience needed?

Not usually. Our Foundation Statistics courses and several of our Design of Experiments (DoE) workshops are pitched at those completely new to statistical methodology, concepts and use of certain software packages. Indeed, we’ve found that some attendees join the course to refresh their knowledge of certain topics, or to improve their understanding! Other courses may require some prior experience of certain subjects, but we’ll chat with you in advance of any workshop to make sure it’s the right one for you.

Do I need any specific software?

We’re well-versed in using many different statistical software packages (we're actually official resellers and partners for several of them!); as such, we will always ensure we recommend using the right tool for the right job and our courses reflect this. All our workshops use some kind of statistics software; many customers use our training to specifically learn how to use a certain package that they already have access to in-house. If you don’t currently have access to specialist software, we can advise which ones might be best for you and direct you to trial or classroom versions for use during the course itself.

Who are your trainers?

We’re lucky to have a wide range of expertise within our team, with different trainers specialising in certain topics and software packages. We’ll share details of your trainer with you ahead of any workshop delivery.

I’m looking for training in topics not covered by your workshops – can you help?

If you wish to explore different subjects that don’t appear within our standard courses, please get in touch. We’d be happy to discuss bespoke training sessions or look to arrange smaller, discussion-led consultancy sessions to meet your specific needs.

How much does your training cost?

We offer a set daily rate for our on-site workshops and a set session rate for our online courses. Please contact us to discuss your specific requirements, so that we can provide a quote for your review

How else can you support me?

As our name suggests, alongside training we also offer statistical consultancy services to ensure you’re making the most of your data. In addition, we also provide software customisation and scripting support, plus we regularly release free online tools and resources.

We hope that this page offers some useful information around some common statistical training questions, but please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to discuss anything further - we'd love to hear from you!
